Hanoi’s Temple of Literature: a symbol of reverence for learning and education
The venue stands as a revered symbol of wisdom and tradition in Vietnam. With meticulous attention from authorities, it has become a cherished destination for visitors.
Comprising Van Lake, the Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam precinct, and Giam Garden, this architectural complex houses the Temple of Literature, dedicated to Confucius, and Vietnam’s first higher education institution during the imperial period, the “Quoc Tu Giam”.
Enclosed within brick walls, the Temple of Literature area features five distinct layers accessed through three gates. It’s a place where tourists explore, students are honored, and cultural events thrive.
For over seven centuries, it has been a focal point for academic excellence and cultural exchange. Students visit before exams, seeking blessings for success. During Lunar New Year, it’s also a popular spot for people to acquire calligraphy, adding to its allure as a place of tradition and learning.
